Ida's Ozempic Journey

This Blog's for you Grace -

Thanks for asking me to keep one.

I've been working since the beginning of June to get weight loss shots with my doctor and pharmacy since June 2023.

It has been soo difficult. My regular pharmacy Raley's told me right away that they didn't have Ozempic and my doctor told me that Wagovy would be get so she put in a prescription for Saxenda.

I was not happy about this since of all the shots this was one of the least successful and also had to be shot every day.

I asked her about Mounjaro and I think she said it was too hard to get.

After I was denied Saxenda I really pushed her to put in the pre-authorization codes for Mounjaro.

Raley's pharmacy said it didn't say I was diabetic. I went back to the doctor and pushed her to write into the codes that I was pre-diabetic because I am.

I went back to Raley's. They said - no. It's Raley's policy that I have to be Diabetic 1 or 2 to get the Mounjaro so they would approve me as pre-diabetic. Then a smartass from the back said - yeah she tried to do that with Saxenda too.

I was really furious but still determined.

I called the biggest CVS in Sacramento and asked them if they had Mounjaro 2.5 and they said sold out and not sure when they'll get more.

I called Walgreens and asked them. I asked them which of their stores might have it. There was one in a far away place in Rancho Cordova. I called them a a visiting pharmacist said they did carry and I should have my prescription transferred so they could include in their next transfer.

I went to Raley's and asked them to transfer it. They said they would not transfer it, that the originating pharmacy would have to do that.

I called that Walgreens to transfer it and they asked to send in a new one from my doctor. (Did I mention that my doctor only works on Wednesdays and Thursdays? - so If I miss her on those two days I have to wait another week).

I got her and asked her to send the prescription to that Walgreens in Rancho Cordova.

In two days I called Walgreens and they said, sure we got the prescription but we don't have any product. I was so so upset.

A few days later I was in Costco with my mom buying a few things. I noticed they had a pharmacy. I called them when I got home and asked about Mounjaro. They said they plenty, they took insurance information and said I was covered but needed pre-authorization.

I went back to my doctor and told her about Costco - she said, I hope they don't need authorization codes. Costco pharmacy called me back and said- you know, you can get Ozempic for only $20 without pre-authorization.

I got back in touch with my doctor and today I got my first supply and I'm starting tomorrow.

I already have an Ozempic nutritionist that I started with this week!
